Resto roundup for the week
by Blogie on 17 Apr 2008 {Roundup}
I’ve been eating out for dinner everyday since last week, so I thought I’d do a restaurant roundup, a review of sorts. I went back to the various restaurants I’ve already tried, so I could sample dishes I hadn’t yet tried.
Caffé Viveré. I actually haven’t blogged about this place yet (but I should have because it was part of one of the Davao food trips!), but I will do a separate piece for them very soon. Let me just say for now that it’s always a joy to dine at Viveré. One of my favorites there is their Shrimp Diavolo. The name should give you an idea that it’s very spicy — just the way I love it.
Basti’s Brew. Used to be, my favorite there was their Chunky Chicken Sandwich… but I’m afraid it seems they don’t make it the way they used to anymore. Even the Carroza isn’t as good anymore. Their Café Americano, my staple diet there, is still good, but depending on who the barrista is on duty.
Dulce Manos Café. After so long, I went there with a friend last night. I enjoyed their Shrimps in Alavar Sauce the first time I was there, and the Lechon Kawali, which I’d gotten a taste of. But this time, the meat was rather tough and the gravy too sour. Must’ve been one of those nights… My friend had the Chicken Pesto, and he reported that it was OK. Not very convincing, if you ask me. Judging by the other patrons’ faces, though, I think we were just unlucky.
Hanoi Vietnamese Cuisine. Not because my relatives own this restaurant, but their food is simply magnificent! The Sate Crab and the Garlic Crab are to die for. Enough said.
Honeybear Chicken House. That night I went there, I wasn’t really craving for anything — the place is near Edge Davao’s office, that’s why I ended up there. The half-chicken meal is still up to expectation. I’m glad they’re able to maintain a consistent flavor. It was quite a satisfying dinner.
Bryan’s Grill & Café. I’m here as I write this (free wifi, of course). Had their Hungarian Sausage Sandwich. Wonderful! Sure, anyone can get Swiss Deli’s yummy sausages and serve them fried. But at Bryan’s, they go the extra mile with generous servings of ciabatta bread, potato wedges, and two dips: tomato-corn salsa (zesty!) and hollandaise. I had iced tea, and all I paid was P185.
The other places I went to this week were not worth mentioning, sorry to say. You know the type: not really bad, but not particularly any good either. Next week, I’m going to have to let my wallet rest — as well as my tummy!

Hanoi’s garlic and butter crab ba yun is really good, especially when there’s someone who makes “himay” it for me lest I break my nails! hehehe
@Migs - good turo-turo… Mama Da’s fronting the Aglipayan church in Torres (good old home cooking but viands are priced at 40), Mang Del’s if you like to eat kambing (their sinampalukan is really good!) and this bulaluan at Guerrero, beside DPWH, is where i go if gusto ko lumamon!
bon appetit!
