Tadakuma

明けましておめでとうございます!
Happy New Year!
タダクマ日本料理 [Tadakuma], a delightful Japanese restaurant that now has two branches in Davao City, is one of the places I go to for comfort food. You see, I absolutely worship Japanese cuisine, and the menu prices at this restaurant are surprisingly very reasonable, and the food is just gorgeous — hence, comfort food.
Tadakuma actually has quite a long history in Davao, having been known by a couple of other names in the past, the most recent of which was “Mabo”. Today, they are on Jacinto Extension, across from the Bangko Sentral complex, and at the Damosa Business Center in Lanang. The latter is very new, with a very Zen atmosphere (crafted by the awesome interior design specialist, Charisse Puentespina).
I was there yesterday with my usual gang of food trippers, but we chanced upon a birthday party of a large family. I’m glad to report that their service was still personable and prompt enough, considering that the place was full to the brim. (Tadakuma in Lanang can accommodate around 80 to 90, I estimate. The one in downtown Davao can hold only about 20.)
When you go there, be sure to order a plate or two of Gyoza. They have the best Japanese dumplings at Tadakuma. Along with that, try their sushi offerings, especially the Chirashi Sushi set. Their donburi offerings are also a must-try. My favorite is the Gyudon. It’s choc-full of flavor, and the portions are enormous.
They are also known for their Japanese ramen bowls. There are so many to choose from too! Their ingredients are top-notch and the preparation is decidedly authentic. Makes you wonder why they don’t charge more…
Here are some photos from last night, taken by Andrew.

Too bad we weren’t able to join you on this one. The food looks delicious. I hope they’ll have buffet dinners sometime soon.

@Brendel — Hmmm… I don’t know if they ever will offer buffet dinners. Personally, I prefer ordering a la carte. Tamad kasi ako bumalik-balik sa buffet table eh!

Hi Blogie – Feyma and I tried the place two days ago, we missed you by just a day! Among other items, we enjoyed the Gyoza and the Gyudon too, they were both excellent! I like Tadakuma, good food, nice atmosphere! That area in Damosa is really becoming a restaurant haven, with many good places all in walking distance of each other!

Yep, food’s nice, but they’re always out of salmon.
Last time I was there, wala din salmon. Pffft. They should take it off their menu na lang. :c

hi blogie!
joey and i had dinner there last week. sooooooooooo disappointed with the service.
went there earlier in the afternoon to reserve a table. when we got there (on time kami ha, not late), they had given our table to another group. “ay mam, maaga kasi sila dumating.” gosh, what made it worse was there were 6 empty tables….and they had to give the one that i specifically reserved for the night?????
joey’s cousin, bobby, decided to join us so we asked the waitress to give us another chair and a place setting for bobby. i was so embarrassed when without a word, she just pulled one of the unoccupied chairs from the next table (there were diners sitting at that table!!!) and gave it to bobby. she also took one of the paper placemats and placed it in front of bobby. then she left. we had to call her back to ask for chopsticks, a soy dish, etc.
and for the finale, we called the waitress and asked for an additional order of rice. she took one step back and shouted at the girl behind the counter (which was located at the opposite end of the room) “isa pang rice, additional order!” yikes! carinderia ba?
grabe, we were terribly disappointed. we like the food kasi, the prices are quite reasonable and the place was really nice. pero naman, ang service…..
di ba you’re friends with the owner? i hope you forward this to him. hindi ako naninira ha? i really would like to go back there, as i said i really like the food, but if the service doesn’t improve….joey’s never going back daw.
dapat siguro kasama ka namin so we’d get good service.

I’ve been eating at Tadakuma on and off for the last 3 years, no doubt the food is excellent. BUT, yesterday, the Gyudon was not up to standard and the Sushi was not as fresh as it could have been. Maybe theyre concentrating on theyre new branch at Damosa? Napahiya ako sa bisita ko…..huhuhu
