La Toscana
by Blogie on 7 Jul 2008 {Restaurant}
After a long spell, I’ve finally gotten around to eating at La Toscana again. The last time was last year! Check out my post about this Italian restaurant at my Davao blog, Ang Dabawenyo.
Together with some friends, I had a sumptuous dinner at La Toscana the other day. We had tons of pasta! Check out the photos (sorry for the low quality… still getting used to my new camera).
We ordered family-style so that each one could try all the dishes. But we weren’t able to finish everything, because the servings are quite big. Of all that we had, the following are what I’d recommend.
Penne ai Pinole (P265). It’s new on their menu, according to the very helpful waitress. I liked it because it had lots of vegetables (carrots, cauliflower) and spices. It was actually quite tasty. This dish serves 2 or 3.
Calzone (P270). This is my favorite here. It’s very filling — because it’s filled with only the best ingredients, including huge amounts of mozzarella cheese! If you’re have other dishes, this serves 3 people.
Fiocchi ai Funghi (P235). This pasta dish, ribbon pasta with mushrooms, is dripping in olive oil (ergo, guilt-free pleasure!). I loved the subtle play of the seasonings and spices.
As an appetizer, La Toscana’s Ravioli e Formaggio (P280) comes highly recommended. But since it’s also heavy in olive oil, I suggest you order this only if there are 3 or 4 of you eating together. Or, you can forego ordering an appetizer because they actually serve a plate of cured meat and bread (with an excellent topping) for free.
The other dishes that we ordered didn’t impress me much, but they weren’t really bad. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience at La Toscana the other night.
They also serve pizza, by the way. The restaurant is located along Quirino Avenue, near the corner of San Pedro St., and on the side of the Nicolas I compound.
