eden20080713aContinuing with the adventures of our two vacationing British friends, we brought them to Eden Nature Park last Sunday for sky-riding and fishing.

I’m not a big lover of tilapia, which is all what you can catch at this mountain resort’s man-made lake. However, after gorging myself on what the resort’s grill had prepared for us (with the fish that we’d caught), I’m now officially a tilapia eater!

And we caught a lot! So we asked the kitchen staff — the kitchen is right there beside the lake — to do three kinds of cooking for us: Pinaputok na Tilapia, Grilled Tilapia, and Deep-Fried Tilapia. They were all awesome, I tell you! I’ve never eaten so much fish in one meal before.

The Pinaputok na Tilapia is an interesting dish. If I’m not mistaken, the fish is steamed until the skin breaks (hence “pinaputok” or blown out). Don’t ask me why, but I myself think some Filipino dishes have strange names (here’s another one: Nilasing na Sugpo). Anyway, in this tilapia dish, the fish is wrapped in banana leaves, which gives it a refreshing flavor.

Personally, the Grilled Tilapia was the best one that we had. I didn’t know that tilapia could be so good when grilled! Dipped in that distinctly Filipino sauce — soy sauce, vinegar, kalamansi (Philippine lemon) and siling labuyo (small but potent chili) — the grilled fish meat tasted so heavenly! I think I ate two whole tilapia, not counting the other dishes.

The Deep-Fried Tilapia could’ve been good, too, I suppose. But by the time we sat down to eat, it was almost cold already. You see, after fishing we went sky-riding while the kitchen prepared the food for us… and we took too long enjoying ourselves in the resort. :)

Our day tour package included merienda (snacks), and that was a choice of spaghetti or sandwiches that day. We all had the spaghetti plate. I must say, it was surprisingly good! The pasta was al dente and the sauce was terrific.

No, I shouldn’t say it was surprising. After all, they grow export-grade vegetables and spices at Eden Nature Park. One sought-after produce of theirs are those large, crunchy salad tomatoes.

@winnie — Shoot.. I knew I should’ve taken note of how much we paid. But I tell you, the cooking charge wasn’t expensive at all. The fishing itself is included in their tour package.

    Have fun!
