To each his own

by Blogie on 23 Feb 2008 {General}

At first I didn’t want to react, but now I felt that I should shed some light on the whole purpose of this blog. You see, I’ve read a post on another blog, as well as some comments, that criticize Davao Delicious for being ‘too positive.’ That I’m being too nice with my food reviews of restaurants here in Davao.

Here’s the thing: Davao Delicious isn’t a food critic’s blog. Its main objective is to promote Davao City through culinary content.

However, this doesn’t mean I will sugar-coat my reviews. I’ve never done that in all my years of writing about anything. For this blog, I focus on what’s good about Davao food. If I see something I don’t like, I try to be consructive, and never destructive.

Why do I avoid writing about negative things on this blog? First of all, I believe that restaurants can change / improve — so if I put them down, and say bad (i.e., non-constructive) things about their food, service, etc., that’s tantamount to condemning them. Second, being negatively critical will go against the very essence of Davao Delicious. (If there’s a restaurant that I totally dislike, I just won’t write about it here at all. But, I might write about it over at Ang Dabawenyo….)

Let’s not forget that blog content is based upon personal opinion, which is influenced by the blogger’s personal experiences. If you read about a certain restaurant here and I’m singing their praises, while on another blog the same restaurant is being razed to the ground, that doesn’t mean either of us is lying. Different bloggers see different things. Also, plenty of factors are at play in this situation: each blogger’s preferences, tastes, etc.

It all boils down to this: whatever you read about here, do try to experience it for yourself. :)

    Bloggie,
    Keep up the good work. Blogs like Davao Delicious is a great help to us who are not from Davao, but travel to Davao on occasion. I have personally find it helpful. I may not agree with everything in it, but that is not the point of the blog, and we each have our tastes and preferences.
    Thank you for the effort you put in all your blogs.

    To everyone — I’ve lost all of my own comments here :( I just hope you were able to read them before my blog went offline a couple of weeks ago.

    Anyway, thanks again for your kind words! I will blog on. ;)
