Basti’s Brew — more than just coffee

Posted on 21 November 2007 by Blogie in Coffee Shop  |  1930 views, 1 today

I thought that it would be fitting to have Basti’s Brew as my first feature here, this coffee shop being my favorite and my usual haunt. In fact I’m right there while I blog this. As I’ve written before over at Ang Dabawenyo, Basti’s Brew Coffee Station at Victoria Plaza is probably the most successful coffee shop in Davao City. And for me, it’s conducive for blogging.

Tonight I had one of their newest items on the menu: Spaghetti Meatball Overload (P130). Basti’s à la carte offerings are mostly Italian — pasta and panini — although most people wouldn’t associate the place with Italian cuisine. Well, the taste isn’t exactly authentic, but their food sells! (For authentic Italian fare, go for Picobello Ristorante Italiano.)

The meatball spaghetti wasn’t all that great, though. It was satisfying, and quite filling. Many Filipinos might like it because the sauce is sweetish, but I don’t like my spaghetti sweet. Perhaps if they mix the red sauce with a little bit more oregano, and made the meatballs spicy…

But it wasn’t bad at all. And the garlic bread was fresh and tangy, just the way I like it. :)

For lunch or dinner, what I do recommend are Basti’s set meals (P200) — my absolute fave is the pork chops. An order is served with soup du jour and ‘bottomless’ iced tea or coffee. My absolute craving, however, is their Chunky Chicken Sandwich (P95), which is a huge and healthy serving.

Basti’s Brew is located at the Victoria Plaza mall, and has a branch on Legaspi St., beside RJ Homes, near the UCCP Church. The one in Victoria is open from 7:30 AM to 12:00 MN on weekends, and up to 2:00 AM Fridays and Saturdays.

Basti’s Brew is a required stop-over for me everytime I’m in Davao… I bring all my travel companions to this place when we are in Davao… and you know that they appreciate it because they usually go back on their subsequent trips… I always order their durian coffee concoction (they also serve it hot, if you request). It is much better than what BluGre serves. Their Americano (my benchmark for coffee) is quite good. Highy recommended….
