By popular demand, I have installed a search engine that lets you, dear blog readers, perform granular searching on DavaoDeli.com. This means that you can now apply filters to your search: by type of cuisine, by general location, and by category. For example, if you’d like to know which coffee shops in downtown Davao offer Italian sandwiches (panini), just go to http://www.DavaoDeli.com/search (or click on the link below the search box on the sidebar) and use the Advanced Search facility.
Since the beginning, DavaoDeli.com has categorized blog posts by establishment type: Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Catering, etc. To make the search-engine filters work, I added two custom taxonomies: Cuisines (Filipino, Japanese, French, etc.) and Locations (general areas as defined by historical Davao geographical areas: Matina, Bajada, Lanang, etc.). I had to go through all my existing posts and apply these two new custom tags; but it was a labor of love.
This brand-new search engine was made possible by a powerful plugin called Relevanssi. I tweaked it a little bit and voilá! I do hope you find the facility useful. And if you have suggestions to improve it further, please don’t hesitate to do a shoutout via the comment area below.
Go ahead and give it a spin!
Do you like the new search engine? Please show how much by “liking” Davao Delicious on Facebook — http://facebook.com/davaodeli.
In order to serve you better, I have added another new feature to this blog of mine. Notice the new icons attached to blog posts about Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Eateries, etc., appearing beside the locator map and below the establishment name and contact details? Each establishment will have icons corresponding to certain services or amenities present. Here are the icons (so far):
Hover your mouse over an icon to see what it means — although, I’d like to believe that the visual reference should be obvious enough.
I’m still working on incorporating the amenities data into the advanced search engine as another search filter. However, the keywords associated with the icons (e.g., “meeting rooms”) are already searchable via the main search input field. Also, if you click on any of the icons, you will be brought to an archive page displaying all the establishments that offer that particular amenity. Neat, huh?
‘Hope you like the new icons! If there are other types of services / amenities that you’d like to be included for display here, do let me know by leaving a comment below. Of course, it would help immensely if you also let me know which restaurants possessed them.

It;s a nice search engine. CONGRATS!! But those of us who don’t live in davao we don’t know about locations there. No idea where Buhangin is. What about “North of Downtown” or “Uptown” or “Near Airport”? Sugestion lang po.
Thanks, Kaloy. Your suggestion is actually a very good one. I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for reading my blog!
Wow ok na okay to Blogie ah! Galing! Panu mo ginawa to? Pwede pa turo? hehe
Thanks, Noy!
I wrote about how to do it @ WP-Evangelist.
Ah okay, babasahin ko.
Triny kong i click young icon na pwede mag smoke, pero it doesn’t bring me to a certain page.
Noy, did you click on the smoking icon on this blog post? It’s just a display of the icons that I’m using here. You should click on the icons from the actual blog posts about restaurants.
Ahhhh I see. cge cge dun pala ako mag click sa mga posts. Ok got it.
Hmmm… You know what, you’ve shown me something. Mas OK nga siguro if I make the icons here on this post clickable to their archive pages. Sige I’ll do that.
what about an icon for live entertainment? maybe a musical note would do nicely.
i’m not in your city, or in the phillipines for that matter, but i stumbled upon your blog while looking for phillipino recipes and found it really amazing so i thought i’d share my thoughts to help you improve your great blog.
Hello Herb, thanks very much for your suggestion! As you can see on this post, I’ve already included an icon for live entertainment. However, none of the places I’ve featured have live entertainment. Just the same, I agree that it should be included for the benefit of future posts.
I don’t have a lot of recipes here yet… but I’ll post one next!
