As I’ve said several times on this blog, I love hot & spicy food (hence the chili logo). And because of that, I also love Hungarian sausages. So when I went to Hungary last year, I stuffed my face with all the spicy sausages I could get my hands on! LOL!

Back in Davao City, I go for the Cheesy Hungarian Sausage (₱60+) or the Spicy Frankfurter by Hero Sausages. At present, they have one foodcart inside NCCC Mall, at the Activity Center just outside the supermarket section. It’s one out of many food stalls in the mall, but it’s what I seek out because their sausage sandwiches are satisfyingly good and filling.

Their Hungarian sausages aren’t really spicy (too bad), but the flavor is what I like. Besides, I can always put hot sauce!

It’s inexpensive, and yet you get high-quality sausages with no artificial food coloring or MSG. Their posters also say that they don’t use meat extenders nor use salitre as preservative. For people who want to keep a healthy diet but crave for that hit-the-spot goodness of a German sausage, Hero’s are the best bet. Their sausages don’t taste salty at all — so if you find it rather bland, you can add a dash of salt yourself. Me, I like Hero’s sausages the way they are, with just a little mustard to bring out its essence.

They have other types of sausages available, too: Schublig, Premium Frankfurter, Chicken, Tuna and DUNDEE Croco. (I’ve had fresh crocodile meat — which, surprisingly, didn’t taste anything like I’d imagined it to be — but not yet Hero’s croc sausage. Maybe on my next visit…)

You can get their sausages in a sandwich, on a stick, or as a meal with pasta. You can also buy the sausages as take-out for eating at home. Personally, I think sausages are best eaten with mashed potatoes and dipped in a special sauce made of olive oil and dried labuyo chilis. hungry

The Hero Sausages brand is a franchise, and they have quite a lot of kiosks in Metro Manila, other parts of Luzon and the Visayas. I hope that we’ll see more foodcarts laden with Hero’s sausages in more parts of Davao City soon!
