After a long spell, I’ve finally gotten around to eating at La Toscana again. The last time was last year! Check out my post about this Italian restaurant at my Davao blog, Ang Dabawenyo.
Together with some friends, I had a sumptuous dinner at La Toscana the other day. We had tons of pasta! Check out the photos (sorry for the low quality… still getting used to my new camera).

- Penne ai Pinole

- Calzone
- Lasagna
- Tiramisu
We ordered family-style so that each one could try all the dishes. But we weren’t able to finish everything, because the servings are quite big. Of all that we had, the following are what I’d recommend.
Penne ai Pinole (₱265). It’s new on their menu, according to the very helpful waitress. I liked it because it had lots of vegetables (carrots, cauliflower) and spices. It was actually quite tasty. This dish serves 2 or 3.
Calzone (₱270). This is my favorite here. It’s very filling — because it’s filled with only the best ingredients, including huge amounts of mozzarella cheese! If you’re having other dishes, this serves 3 people.
Fiocchi ai Funghi (₱235). This pasta dish, ribbon pasta with mushrooms, is dripping in olive oil (ergo, guilt-free pleasure!). I loved the subtle play of the seasonings and spices.
As an appetizer, La Toscana’s Ravioli e Formaggio (₱280) comes highly recommended. But since it’s also heavy in olive oil, I suggest you order this only if there are 3 or 4 of you eating together. Or, you can forgo ordering an appetizer because they actually serve a plate of cured meat and bread (with an excellent topping) for free.
The other dishes that we ordered didn’t impress me much, but they weren’t really bad. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience at La Toscana the other night.
They also serve pizza, by the way. The restaurant is located along Quirino Avenue, near the corner of San Pedro St., and on the side of the Nicolas I compound.

Nice review blogie. Maybe we would try it out
@Cesar Noel — Please do!
hi there! i stumbled through your blogspot while looking for nice restos here in davao. i find it fascinating that you have chosen to write about food. and that is a good thing. i’m a pizza-pasta person that is why i enjoyed reading this new entry. i hope you can visit more pizza-pasta places and write about them too so that maybe i can also try going to those places. keep on eating!!! =)
@lou — I’m glad you enjoyed my blog! I’ll surely post more about pizza and pasta.
Check out my I-love-Davao blog as well: http://www.angdabawenyo.com.
i always wonder…wats the name of that leaf that is always on der dish……….
@stalkergalore — That would be either mint or fresh bay leaf… but I’m not really sure.
I enjoyed this review better than the other one you had on La Toscana. I am not an expert as you are and certainly not in a position to critique your work, but I like to read reviews based on the quality of service or food provided by the restaurant being reviewed and not think it is being used to boost someone else’s business by doing comparisons. Still love your site and rely on it!
@Thomas J. Martin — Thanks very much!
But pls know that I do not use my blog to boost anyone’s business if doing so sacrifices the integrity of my writing. I will accept advertising (as you might see on my sidebar), but my writing is not for sale. If I see something that I do not like, I will write about it (but constructively, of course).
