Kasagingán Kapehan

The Davao Food Appreciation Tour (DavaoFAT) is well underway — in fact, we’re on the second day now. As I write this, we’re at Kasagingán Kapehan. It’s a coffee shop, and they specialize in banana desserts. Our host let us order to our hearts’ delight (within limits, of course), so I was able to sample some of their pastries.

Here are some dishes that I got to really like:

The Maruya Supreme is a lovely dessert, delicate and not too sweet. It’s a very welcome reincarnation of the humble Filipino delicacy. I recommend this vigorously! The Banana Dream Pie is also quite good. Try it!

The Roast Beef Sandwich that I also had was OK… but nothing spectacular. Also, while the presentation for their desserts are beyond expectation, the way they prepare their sandwiches isn’t very impressive. But the taste wasn’t bad at all, and very affordable. Perfect for a quick snack.

This homegrown café, owned by the Lizadas, is on F. Torres St., Davao City. It’s a wifi hotspot, too. In fact, much like the other popular wifi-enabled coffee shops in the city, Kasagingán has a lot of laptop-toting regular patrons.

If you’re talking about food, no doubt they’re a sure win. But the place, very dissapointing. When we went there, there were a lot of mosquitoes, I was not bothered very much. But when I got home my left arm was full of bites! It was really embarassing for my part, because they were really obvious. Because they’re were so many, it looked liked I have scabies. :(
